Try with open ended questions. Let's start with his daily routine that he see daily.
Example here are cloth you wear today.

Answer should begin with One word then Two words then sentence then full sentences with description. Try now!

Daily Routine

Question 1: Are you wearing white T-Shirt today?
Answer: Yes
- Testing on Yes/No question. To check if he knows the different between Yes/No.

Once he is able to answer above Question 1, then continue with sentence. Rather than only Yes/No, start with sentence.

Question 2: What are you wearing today?
Answer: I am wearing T-Shirt.
- To be able to answer what is he wearing.

Once he is able to answer above Question 2, then continue with expansion of answer.

Question 3: What is the colour of T-shirt you are wearing today?

Answer: I am wearing White colour T-shirt
- To be able to answer what colour and what is he wearing.

Once he is able to answer above Question 3, then continue with even longer expansion of answer.

Question 3: What is the colour of T-shirt you are wearing today?

Answer: I am wearing White colour T-shirt
- To be able to answer what colour and what is he wearing.

Picture/Flash Card

We can also start with picture to learn 

1. Verb

2. Vocabulary

3. Questions

4. Answer

Question 1: What is the child doing?
Answer: The boy is sleeping.

- Kid able to identify is a girl or a boy

- Kid able to identify What is the boy doing?

Once he is able to answer above Question 1, then guide the kid to answer in a longer answer.

Elaborate the answer: The boy is sleeping on the bed.

- to elaborate more on where is the boy sleeping

Once he is able to elaborate more on the action and where. then try with colours.

Elaborate more on the answer: The boy is sleeping on the blue bed.

Narrative writing is, essentially, story writing. A narrative can be fiction or nonfiction, and it can also occupy the space between these as a semi-autobiographical story, historical fiction, or a dramatized retelling of actual events. As long as a piece tells a story through a narrative structure, it’s narrative writing. 

Below is just the guidelines of writing a narrative.

To write a good narrative:

1. You need a structure to make your stories

2. You need to read more books to learn more vocabulary and idioms. It will help in explaining the stories in details.

3. You need to learn your grammar. 

Avoid

1. Avoid using Slang and broken English  like “They’re”. 

2. Writing Objectively instead of subjectively. Based on proof and point to make conclusion instead of self opinion.

3. Check the grammar and spelling at the end of narrative. As these are the mistake that are not suppose to happen which will give sloppy impression.

4. Use comma, Fullstop, Punctuation, question mark at the right time.

Important of Effective Writting

Effective writing is not just a study, it is a career skill that will form a foundation for your future workplace.

Next you will need Effective writing on your Project or coursework in your Higher Education.

Before getting to your workplace, CV is the important place where your skill is needed to land you on a prospect job.

You can draw what he usually do. Things that related to your little one. This is what my little one do every morning he get up from bed.

He is start to show improvement using “after”, but “before” still vague. He start to master it after 2-3 weeks of practise. Children need pictures for them to visualise and understand what that word means. They will be able to understand easily with example related to them.

Then they can start use it daily.

First explain the picture in sequence here. Highlight the word Before and After during the explanation.

 Questions:

1. What do you do before Brush teeth?

2. What do you after Wear Mask?

3. What do you do before drink milk?

4. What do you do after wear Shoe?

Week

Why they speech is delay? As they cannot understand our words. So using Picture or scenario related to them or illustrated example will help them understand better.

You can use Picture Exchange Communication as communication with your kids that trying to learn to talk but unable to express the word. These pictures allow them to point and tell you what they want. From there, you guide them to use the word. slowly expand from one word to two words and eventually to a sentences. 

Sometimes we just do not have time to bring our kids to experience the things Nor we have time to use the items. Hence picture vocabulary can let them self learn and also a tools for us to teach our kids.

From these set of picture, children can learn category too. With pictures, you also can teach Where, How, What and When questions. The most important things is guide them on answering the questions. Demonstrate how to answer the questions.


We going to learn WHAT questions here: 

Clothes

Explain each of the clothes to your child. What is the different and when to wear.

Questions:

1. What are you wearing now?

A:I am wearing a shirt. 

Try to continue conversation: “what color is your shirt?”

A: I am wearing a blue color shirt

You teach him to continue conversation and expanding of answer instead only describing one. Then continue to ask and more the conversation two way while learning more action and verb.

2. What do you wear when you sleep?

A: I wear pyjamas to sleep.

Can you wear skirt to sleep?

A: No

This is to practise Yes and No questions if his answer on Yes no is not consistently correct.

Days of the Week

They may no understand what is Days of Week about. We have to slowly and repeatedly use in our daily life. On Monday to Friday, you have to go to school. On Saturday and Sunday, it is a weekend and school is not open. 

On Wednesday, you can tell him that today is the third day of the week. 

Every Saturday, we will go to the park. What you need to do, engage them with the days and activity they do. Slowly they will understand what is days.

That's what you do for two weeks. After two weeks, you try to ask them questions on days and let them think more and also help to understand more.

Questions:

1. What day is today?  Guide them by telling them "today is monday, I have to go school"

2. Which day did you go to the park? "We go to the park on Saturday"

3. Which day come before Friday? (this can help them learn before and after)

They may answer only in one word "Monday". From them slowly elaborate their answer to "Today is Monday". Then following week, teach them to say in full sentence "Today is Monday, I have to go school".

Take one step at a time. Do not teach all the expansion answer in a day. Their pace of learning will takes weeks. 

Months of the Year

Let your child understand that which month is your birthday? When is school holiday month?

Questions:

1. Which month is your birthday?

2. Which month is mummy birthday?

3. Which month is school holiday?

4. Which month comes after April? (this can help them learn before and after)

Colours

Questions:

1. What colour is your pant?

A: Green

 I guess every kids have read the book “The Hungry Caterpillar”. Have you seen a real caterpillar? Caterpillar look exactly like young leave color and some twig color. They camouflage themself in the leaf that is often very difficult to see they are actually there. Caterpillar is actually very small like 1cm long only.

We often notice that they are there when you see your leaves started look bald. 

Do you know caterpillar turn into butterfly after they cocoon them self for 9 - 14 days.

P/S

The Hungry Caterpillar is really a good book by Eric Carl’s for your little one to start with. It teached numbers, colors, days, food and also the cycle of a caterpillar.  Easy to read and easy to understand.

He can talk!! The Key is you.... Home Speech Therapy

Are you feeling lost of how to help your little one? Why are your little one having speech delay? or How can I early Intervene him? Or does he fall in Autism spectrum? 

1. They cannot concentrate on one thing for a period of 5-10mins

When they cannot sit down and LISTEN, that is why we are here to enforce that. Put a timer, practise to sit and stay at the same activity for 5 minutes, then 10minutes then 20 minutes.

Q&A:

a. My LO sit there to play the car for 10minutes. Does that count?

No. LO must  stay there to play for 10 minutes on something that they don't like too. They must able to listen to story books, listen to teacher, eating rice and so on. This concentration must be demonstrate on everything they do in order for your LO to continue learn.

2. No Eye Contact

Eye and ear is important for a person to learn. They must be able to see and concentrate of what they are learning. Practise look at your eye when communicating.

3. Parents are busy

Speech delay always happen to boys. Boys don’t really go attract someone attention or bubbly like girls. They are more independent and tend to play alone. At today’s busy world, parents are happy when their kids can play on their own and able to be on phone on Long time. Then, there the problem came... Start talking to them daily!

Why and how to help them?

Early Intervention Program (EIP) and Speech Therapy (ST) Class will definitely help to shape them early but parents/care taker should practise with them daily.

While we practicing the above three points, we can use tools to teach and create environment for them to practise the above. Actually they able to learn and they learn fast at young age. We must shape them when they are young. When they get older with bad habits, you will need more time to re-shape their behaviour.

Just teach as many vocalbury as you can at any place.

You can use Picture Exchange Communication to show and expain. These pictures allow them to point and tell you what they want. From there, you guide them to use the word. Slowly expand from one word to two words and eventually to a sentences. 

Answer should begin with One word then Two words.

and practise Yes and No questions.

Start your questions with Daily activities with objective answer. Don't leave it as subjective as they do not how to fill in yet. Try by giving 2 options first. Try to ask things that is relevant to your LO and continue the conversation. Keep the conversation 2 ways instead of one. Below are some sample questions:

What type of questions to ask your little one?

To practice Q&A and if they can understand Yes and No.

1. Do you want to play car? Yes or no? 

After asking the question, give him option: Yes or no? Guide your LO to answer Yes or No. Try to explain how to use Yes or No.

2. Do you like to eat vegetable? Yes or no? 

3. Did you shower today? Yes or no? 

To practice Q&A and if they can voice their preference and needs.

4. Do you want to play with mummy or daddy?

Pointing to Mummy and Daddy.

5. Do you like Rice or Noodle?
Show him the rice and noodle picture if he cannot understand. You can ask food that is relevant to him. 

6. Do you want to eat Pizza or Donut?

7. Do you want to color Red color or Green color?

To practise what he seen and able to answer correctly. This also to learn more vocabulary. Repeat and re-phase your question to make sure you know he understand. 

8. Is mummy holding a book or a Pencil?

9. Is this a Cup or a Plate?

10. What is this? A Lion or a Tiger?

For your LO to improve fast, i would said your conversation with them is the Key to success.

In daily school, teacher will not emphasis on this type of learning. On speech therapy school they only spend one hour a week there which is not sufficient without parent/caregiver practicing at home. Engage and work with daily school teachers and Speech Therapy Teacher to shape your LO early.

You are the Key of their success. Spend at least 10mins daily with them.
